We are dedicated to promoting the sports of swimming, cycling and distance running. By presenting high quality events that are equally enjoyable for all participants i.e, athletes, spectators, sponsors and volunteers, we are enhancing health and fitness for all participants and in the process helping them realize their potential and dreams.

BACKGROUND

Tritanium Sports is a new sports management venture in the USA. South African born founder and CEO, Jan Buitendag, has been involved in sports for many decades, first as participant and later on as administrator, sport event producer and athlete manager. Jan has been producing sporting events for the past 27 years.

Jan played rugby on junior provincial- and senior first league levels. His track record includes completing more than a 100 marathons, ultra marathons and ultra mountain running marathons. He participated in multi-day kayak marathons, did an Iron Man distance triathlon and numerous shorter tri- and duathlons.

At the 1993 Duathlon World championships in Frankfurt Germany, Jan was elected to the International Triathlon Union (ITU) committee – responsible for duathlon internationally. He served on the ITU from 1993 to 1994.

Jan has managed South African national duathlon teams to the World Duathlon Championships in:

  • Palm Springs, USA 1992

  • Frankfurt, Germany 1993

  • Powerman Zofingen, Switzerland 1992 to 1999.

 

He has arranged participation in international events for several world class distance runners, triathletes and duathletes.

Jan organized and managed several sport touring groups from South Africa to big international races, for example: New York City Marathon (1992-present), Swiss Alpine Marathon (1992-1999) and Powerman Duathlon Zofingen (1992-1999).

He has organized and managed several summer training camps (during the European winter) for European national tri-and duathlon teams in South Africa:

  • German National Triathlon Team

  • Swiss National Duathlon Team

Jan served for several years on the executive body of:

  • the Magnolia Road Runners club, one of the biggest road running clubs in South Africa;

  • the Northern Transvaal Triathlon Union; and

  • the Northern Transvaal Kayak Association.

 

His event management experience includes the organizing, construction and direction of numerous distance running, fun run, tri-and duathlon events on club, provincial, national and international/world championship levels, such as:

  • Comrades Marathon Fun run (the biggest fun run event in South Africa.)

  • Two Oceans Marathon Fun run

  • Powerman Duathlon World Series in South Africa (1995 – 1999)

  • Powerman World Cup South Africa 1997

  • Technical director for the South African leg of the JP Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series, responsible for layout and constructing the starts and finish as well as the branding of the event (2004- present).

 

Jan and his family immigrated to the USA in 1999. He is now a naturalized US citizen. Since moving to the USA, Jan became involved in event construction on a part time basis.

 

Jan and his team like to stage high quality, environmentally friendly events, with attention to detail, that are equally enjoyable for all participants i.e. athletes, spectators, sponsors and volunteers, with the emphasis on a healthy lifestyle and fitness for all.
